New publication: Review in the Journal of Juvenilia Studies
My review of Alexandra Zapruder’s Salvaged Pages: Young Writers’ Diaries of the Holocaust (2002) has just been published in the Journal of Juvenilia Studies 7.2 (2026), pp. 157-161.
In it, I look at how Zapruder curated fourteen diaries written by young Jewish authors across Nazi-occupied Europe, and what that curation contributes to Holocaust memory. The volume works as a historical and pedagogical resource, but what struck me most is how it holds onto the fragmentary, unfinished, human quality of these testimonies rather than smoothing them over.
Salvaged Pages resists comforting or romanticised narratives. It preserves these writings as historical fragments that still speak to readers today.
